This Made News: the Berlin Air-lift (or Berlin Blockade) ran from 24 June 1948 to 12 May 1949 and was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War.

Surrounded by the Russians and cut off from the rest of Western Germany, the Allies flew supplies into the besieged German city of Berlin. In one year over 200,000 flights were made by aircrews from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
